Eight innovative artists have been selected to create new, multidisciplinary works exploring the theme of SOMA (Greek for Body). In association with PlayFrisco Cultural Affairs, we're proud to present another year of groundbreaking programming showcasing the best local talent.
Through diverse performances, including dance, theater, music, and visual arts, SOMA delves into the complexities of the human body as a vessel for expression, identity, and experience. Each performance brings a unique perspective to the theme, creating a rich landscape of creative inquiry and artistic innovation.

FLAMENCO x KHALBELIYA
Suppose you remember our first Bridges event in 2021. In that case, you’ll know how magical it was to see Flamenco dancers and Indian Khabeliya performers come together, blending their unique styles into one mesmerizing show. It was a beautiful mix of cultures, rhythms, and beats that had everyone cheering! And now, we’re bringing that energy back—this time even bigger and better!
In partnership with the Plano International Festival, we’re creating a cultural experience that will transport you worldwide without leaving Plano.

MOVEMENT x DRUMS

Born from their 2022 collaboration, “Core Respond,”“Transposition” takes this dialogue further by imposing rules that reflect the inherent distances in human interaction. Here, physical distance is not a barrier but a “catalyst for exploration”, pushing the artists to create new ways of connecting across space.
On stage, the interplay of juxtaposed imagery, sound, and movement unfolds both live and through video, as bodily and spatial boundaries are tested. The result is a profound meditation on how constraints—whether physical, emotional, or creative become just as essential to discovery as freedom itself.

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY
In this multidisciplinary piece, a poet/ flautist, dancer, visual artist, and tabla artist unite to explore what it means to grow as an artist while remaining grounded in peace. Each performance element—whether through words, movement, sound, or imagery—reflects the stages of this journey, offering a profound meditation on how art allows us to evolve while staying connected to our roots.
Together, these artists will craft a performance that transports the audience, showing how creativity can lift us toward new heights while keeping us centered in who we are.

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY

In this piece, movement, poetry, and visual art come together to examine the dynamic relationship between the head and the heart—the logical and the emotional. Through a rich soundscape of music and poetry, our talented movement artists push the boundaries of expression, illustrating the contradictions and connections that define our inner worlds.
“Harmonious Union” brings to life the tension between logic and feeling, showing how they simultaneously oppose and complement one another. The seamless blend of artistic disciplines—poetry’s reflective depth, the expressive energy of movement, and the evocative power of visual art—invites you to experience the delicate balance of mind and heart in a refined, immersive way.

CROSS GENRE
BLUE DANUBE WALTZ x RAAS LEELA
In this grand finale, you’ll see these ancient traditions come alive through a modern lens, as ballet, waltz, and Indian dance blend in a stunning and unexpected performance. Exploring Blue Danube Waltz music, a remarkable piece these groups bring into conversation with an array of dance styles—from the ballet to the expressive forms of Indian classical and folk movements. Together, these genres explore the enchanting story of the Raas Leela—a legendary dance from Hindu mythology that represents love, devotion, and divine play.
For those new to this story, Krishna is one of the most loved gods in Hindu tradition, known as the god of love, compassion, and playfulness. He is often shown playing the flute, and his music captivates the gopis—village women devoted to him. The Raas Leela is a beautiful dance between Krishna and the gopis, symbolizing the connection between the divine and the human, love and devotion.
